The heart can think of no devotion greater than being shore to ocean. Holding the curve of one position, counting the endless repitition.
This was painted as part of my Mantra series.
At the time I had just lost a childhood mentor and it really hit me in my heart. The lesson I found in that was that nothing is permanent and you have to be willing to loose everything. It really makes you appreciate what you have. So I wrote this on my canvas and painted around it. I've included pictures of the process so you can see where it came from.
The outcome was easy, bright and cheerful. But the emotion the painting began with was sorrow.
Situations seem to happen to people, but in reality, they unfold from deeper karmic causes. The universe unfolds to itself, bringing to bear any cause that needs to be included. Don’t take this process personally. The working out of cause and effect is eternal. You are part of this rising and falling that never ends, and only by riding the wave can you ensure that the waves don’t drown you.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
This piece was a experiment with textures.
The background has several layers of oil paint. While the paint was still wet I applied thinner with a spray bottle to each layer. This created the look of rain. This painting holds multiple layers of different unique textures.
